Chapter One: Introduction
1.1 Background of the Study
Conflict, whether it is ethnic, religious, or politically motivated, remains a significant challenge in many parts of Nigeria. In Jalingo Local Government Area, Taraba State, conflicts between different ethnic groups and political factions have often been exacerbated by misinformation and lack of communication. Digital media platforms, including social media, blogs, and mobile apps, have emerged as powerful tools for conflict resolution by providing spaces for dialogue, fact-checking, and the dissemination of peaceful messages. According to Ibraheem and Abdullahi (2024), digital media can facilitate peacebuilding by enabling stakeholders to engage in discussions, share information, and promote understanding. This study investigates how digital media has been used to address conflicts in Jalingo, evaluating the effectiveness of digital platforms in promoting peace and preventing violence.
